Costa Rica is a country in Central America, bordered to the north and southeast Nicaragua and Panama. Extends majestically from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea and its distance is only 200 miles. Its land portion occupies a total area of 51,100 km ².
This small country has a significant percentage organic species of global biodiversity, with beautiful scenic landscapes and a rich multicultural diversity of friendly people, friendly and polite. Costa Rica is a democratic and peaceful country, which has no army since 1949.
Climate:
The climate is tropical. There are two seasons: rainy (sunny in the morning, some rain almost every afternoon from May through November) and dry (occasional rains from December to April).
History:
In 1502, Christopher Columbus on his fourth and last voyage, reached the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, landing in the current city of Puerto Limon. He was received by the Indians by treating them with riches and gold. However, soon realized that there was much gold as gold available both as expected and this land remained mostly intact until the early 1560s, when the Spanish founded the first lasting settlement in the country. In 1821 independence from Spain was declared in Guatemala for Central America.However, Costa Ricans did not affect much as they were long accustomed themselves rulers, who basically ignored by his distant homeland.
Since independence, Costa Rica began its history of a democratic state, with some bumps in the road until the end of 1940, when Jose Maria Figueres Ferrer introduced a new constitution that establishes the redistribution of power away from elites and to eliminate corruption institutions. Its historic reforms included women’s suffrage to full citizenship for blacks.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Costa Rica (INEC) to August 2009, the population of Costa Rica is estimated at 4,509,290 inhabitants whose native language is Spanish. Yet another language such as English, are often used and understood foreign visitor may be fluent in that language. The population is distributed in the seven provinces in the country: San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago, Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limón. The capital is located in the province of San José, which is the most populous of all.
